Charon's fragrance is a curious blend of musk, dark berries, leather, metallic bite, and watery florals. It plays into the sharp scent of metal to represent the coins or obols paid to him for the fare to cross the rivers Styx and Acheron along with the metallic smell of blood as many who met him may have died a violent death. Souls that were unable to pay the fare risked a fate of wandering the shores of the river for a hundred years. 

We chose fragrances that had ties to items associated with passage, death, or mourning to represent Charon. The fruity notes of this candle were chosen as items that may have been offered during funeral rites. Obsidian is often seen as a stone associated with death, as well as ancient cultures using the stone in ritual sacrifice. Enoki is a type of mushroom that helps to break down decaying matter. Lavender, sage, and rosemary would have been used to help mask the scent of death on corpses in some cultures as well as their use in helping to purify the bodies.
